The Capacity Crisis:

Expanding Access to Education for Out of School Children in Tak Province

Thailand is transitioning to a 'super-aged society' with over 20% of its population aged 60+, projected to reach 30% by 2040, creating significant labor shortages. A practical solution exists: young migrant residents who wish to contribute to Thai society. This policy brief highlights that 87% of migrant families along the Thai-Myanmar border desire enrollment in Thai public schools. However, systemic barriers—including school capacity constraints, documentation requirements, and financial challenges—prevent access. With proper education access, these young people will learn Thai language and culture while helping address Thailand's growing workforce needs. Strategic interventions in documentation, transportation, and school capacity could transform this situation into a demographic opportunity that benefits the entire nation.
